What is the appropriate amount for tips (if any) if I don’t want to seem rude?

Thanks for all your input, everybody. I know about the 15% guideline in regular restaurants. What I want to know is for the other stuff: cabs, hotels, and any other place where a tip is usually expected. I think I need a few more people’s opinions.
