vacation in Korea
Too far from home asked:

I was pregnant, now I’m not :-(. My husband and I are going to try again. I live in Korea and teach at a university. I get 2 1/2 months of paid vacation in winter and again in summer. According to the pregnancy calculators, I can give birth on Dec. 22 if I concieve on March 31st or so. 2 questions:

(1) What are my chances of actually conceiving in March? Is this a good plan? If March doesn’t work, then we’ll try for April.

(2) If I do conceive in March, will I give birth on or before December 22, (I won’t finish giving my final exams until December 9) or should I wait until April?

I have to plan, because in Korea there are no laws that protect pregnant women from being fired, well there are, but they don’t apply to foreigners…. Anyway, I don’t want to miss work, so I must have my baby during late December, January, or early Feb. I don’t work many hours, so I can juggle being a new mom and work…..I think, I hope…..
My husband is not working now, but we are planning to have a baby early next year. I get paid vacation (half of December and all of February, but I’m supposed to teach in Jan.) so I’m planning on having my baby then, but I will have to pay another teacher to cover for me for a month in January. If I don’t have my baby during my break, I’m pretty sure I will be replaced. The only reason that I’m willing to do this is because I will be completing my PhD course requirements in December and it will be easier to have an infant when I’m writing my dissertation, than when I’m trying to get promoted the next year.
